Hi Tim, I just discovered this game and have fallen in-love with its writing and design. It's such a beautiful piece of art.
I wanted to share this Notion template I made for playing the game; hopefully it will serve people other than myself.
I also edited the Single Pages PDF and added bookmarks for easier navigation. I'd love to email it to you in case you want to release it. Thanks again for your wonderful work.
I got a community copy, reviewed the whole thing, and fell in love with it enough to purchase it immediately. Thank you for the clearly enormous love and effort you've put into this.
I'm excited to play it for myself, possibly make videos of it, and introduce some friends to this game as well. A friend of mine has a typewriter she loves, and I think she'd love playing this game on that typewriter.
I got a community copy (thank you so much for those btw) but then loved it so much that I had to get the physical 🥲.
Quick question, is the vampire supposed to be like a traditional vampire with speed and strength etc or are they relatively more human with the thirst for blood? It’s not mentioned (unless I’m just not reading properly which is likely), I’m guessing that it’s just up to us players?
There's a section in there that says "Hey, the vampire needs to hurt people to survive, be functionally immortal, and should be limited in how it can interact with its environment" or something like that. Basically laying out the minimal needed in order to not clash too badly when you answer Prompts.
Now you have me curious... Look on page xiv, there are torn paper inserts titled "What is a vampire?"
In the sequel I've really been enjoying playtesting with vampires who are never clearly identified as -anything-. They're just awful, highly motivated people and you can write their deeds in such a way that you never witness them do anything supernatural. It's a really fun way to play the sequel but wouldn't work for TYOV.
Pre-orders will go up once I have the book at the printer. I'll email everyone who got a copy off itch.io, so that'll be you, and mention it in the newsletter. Newsletter sign up is at the bottom of thousandyearoldvampire.com
I’m a disabled pensioner with PTSD, chronic anxiety and depression and these new community games available by generous creators like you make a huge difference to my daily life.
Having new games to play every day helps me have a bit better quality of life and makes such a huge difference to me. I know some people think anyone requesting community copies regularly are just abusing this system and don’t need them.
I can’t afford much but do buy bundles when I can afford them. I have bought games I lay regularly as I can afford them to
There are so many good reasons to offer them, but Community copies also do some counterintuitive things:
1. By giving away free copies I can, perversely, charge more for the pay copies. If you can afford $5 but not $15, you take a community copy. If you can afford $15 and I'd priced for $5 people then I'd be getting less money and the people who couldn't afford $5 are still cut out of the loop.
2. About half the angry/threatening contacts I get include some version of "And I'm going to take your PDF and put it on a download site where people can get it for FREE." I can be like, dude, the game is already free for anyone who wants it.
I’m sorry you get such horrible comments from people wanting your games for free
I get occasional abusive or nasty comments requesting community copies. Half the time it’s not even from the creator but some random person who downvotes my request and has a go at me.
I do request a lot of community copies because only about 1 in 10 creators reply with a yes so even though I request a lot I don’t expect to get most of the games anyway
Once again, thank you so much for your hard work creating games and also giving copies away to those who love gaming but can’t afford much

Cool!
Ah yeah, I really really really should have included bookmarks in the PDFs.
Beautifully crafted game. I'm in my second play-through already. I highly recommend this game!

Thank you for the kind words!

Page xiv was exactly what I was looking for. I had a feeling I saw it in here but when searching again I didnt check the collage.
Congrats on the sequel btw! I know the project has ended but are late pledges open anywhere?

I am glad my ugly games are there to help!

Are there other languages versions of this game? I look for an Italian transaltion. Or is there a way to help translating it? Thank you!
There's an Italian translation by Narrativa... Here you go: https://narrattiva.it/it/shop/libro/1000-anni-da-vampiro/
