I’m a disabled pensioner with PTSD, chronic anxiety and depression and these new community games available by generous creators like you make a huge difference to my daily life.
Having new games to play every day helps me have a bit better quality of life and makes such a huge difference to me. I know some people think anyone requesting community copies regularly are just abusing this system and don’t need them.
I can’t afford much but do buy bundles when I can afford them. I have bought games I lay regularly as I can afford them to
There are so many good reasons to offer them, but Community copies also do some counterintuitive things:
1. By giving away free copies I can, perversely, charge more for the pay copies. If you can afford $5 but not $15, you take a community copy. If you can afford $15 and I'd priced for $5 people then I'd be getting less money and the people who couldn't afford $5 are still cut out of the loop.
2. About half the angry/threatening contacts I get include some version of "And I'm going to take your PDF and put it on a download site where people can get it for FREE." I can be like, dude, the game is already free for anyone who wants it.
I’m sorry you get such horrible comments from people wanting your games for free
I get occasional abusive or nasty comments requesting community copies. Half the time it’s not even from the creator but some random person who downvotes my request and has a go at me.
I do request a lot of community copies because only about 1 in 10 creators reply with a yes so even though I request a lot I don’t expect to get most of the games anyway
Once again, thank you so much for your hard work creating games and also giving copies away to those who love gaming but can’t afford much
