I’m very glad I was able to see the email come in within 10 minutes since they were going to send my book to Poland not Norway. They almost got my street name correct so points for effort.

(1 edit)

Oh shit!  I'm surprised it was able to get through the system that way.

Today I glanced at the Scandinavian letter sets in some addresses and just felt bad.

I replied with the correct address, but it was unclear if that would just cancel my order and I’d have to reorder with the correct address or ....?

They'll adjust it on their end.

excellent, I’m a little gun shy with deliveries at the moment. One delivery had one letter missing and ended up taking a extra 2 months to get from the capital to my home.... I can’t imagine how long having the wrong country would add...

HOLY SHIT PEOPLE!  GOOD NEWS!

It's easy to have notices fall through the cracks so I'm sharing it here too:  The warehouse emailed me today to share that the books have arrived and are ready to ship!

I'll give 'em an updated shipping list today so they'll have it AM tomorrow.  After that it usually to take them up to a week to get all the orders out of the door.  Watch for an email from Blackbox if you are one of the folks who've been waiting.

Also:   I should have new PDFs up by the end of the weekend.

I just want to say that even when the update emails have contained bad news they’ve left me with a smile on my face. I hope the good(Well deserved Awards etc) has outweighed the bad(warehouses/the world in general)

It's all shipping today!

Dear Tim

I would really like to order Thousand Year Old Vampire, rpg, but the shipping cost of 35-40 USD to Europe for a book is really prohibiting.
I'm sorry I cannot afford such sums. Would be glad to buy your game when you find some alternative solution.

Yeah, shipping outside the US is stupidly expensive and I'm sorry.  Contact 3rd Space Games in the UK and ask them about pre-ordering a second printing copy.  It'll be cheaper.

Do you have a link or would I need to email them about a UK print?

It's these folks

Hi, ordered TYOV on 25 June, any recent update regarding shipping (To UK/EU) would be greatly appreciated. Also I have not received any mass mailings that have been previously mentioned.

same here except I am in the U.S and have not received any emails about shipments.

Nuts, I'm sorry you missed out on the big emails.   If you don't get a shipping email from blackbox by the end of next week please email me at dearleadergame@gmail.com

Tim, not sure if you're aware but the DTRPG POD version has an extra page inserted at the front so all the pages are shifted by one so left is on the right and vice versa. Bit of a shame because part of having the print version is all about the beauty of the design! I can see the POD has been pulled for now, but I ordered it 6 weeks ago when it was still available. (Just arrived today in Australia.)

Yeah, that error was weird and is getting fixed.  Also:  Holy shit, that took a long time to get to the AU.

Email me at dearleadergame@gmail.com

Hey I purchased the physical copy of the book back in June I was wondering if I am getting this or not.

Is this the shipping co that has borked up the warehouse move? https://www.blackbox.cool/

It seems to be unborked now so don't poke the bear as it packs boxes.

Holy shit, the bear mention just made me remember a dream about a tiger trapped in a car.

Hi, will the second printing also be available in the EU version? The shipping costs from the US are insane ^^'

I will be updating the DTRPG POD EU version with the second printing text.

I wish I could either print a proper fancy version in the EU or get set up with an efficient way to get books to the EU and warehouse them.  I just emailed a czech art book company I used to be friendly with to see if they can advise me.

But yeah, it's just stupidly expensive to send stuff.

That sounds great, I will keep an eye on any update regarding this, would love to get a couple fancy prints of the book!

+1 to this, I'm in a similar dilemma.

Hopefully the Ennies (congrats Tim!) will make this great game more visible and with more EU demand, more attention from EU companies?

Fingers crossed for that second print...

(+1)

I just emailed a Polish warehouse to see if I can warehouse with them.

Contact 3rd Space Games in the UK to see about preordereing through them.  Preorderingins.  Oreprrdeing.  Preordering.

Preordering.

"Tanks" Tim, looking forward for the EU updates!

Hi, I ordered the physical book on July 7th and totally understand the pains of shipping, warehousing, etc, and don't really mind it arriving late. My concern is that I'm going to be moving at the end of the month and don't want the book to get lost between addresses. Is there a way to update the address to the place I'm moving to? Additionally, I haven't received any emails other than my confirmation from PayPal, is there a way to get on the list? Thanks!

Email me your new address at dearleadergame@gmail.com.  Include an email I can add to the mailing list.  Know it's a mailchimp thing so it's easy for it to get filtered out.

A quick note:  The warehouse isn't shipping this week.  I'll send a proper email tomorrow.  My internet is out and I can't do proper work right now.

Hey Tim! I’m new to itch.io so maybe I’m doing something wrong but I haven’t received any of your update or follow up emails you’ve mentioned here.

(1 edit)

Hi, I just wanted you to know that I appreciated the inclusion of the community copies so much that I ordered before the SU&SD [edit: review] had really gotten started.  Well done, and I look forward to receiving my book.

<high five>

The shipping of the 'nice' book to Australia remains outrageous, made even worse by the USD to AUD conversion rates.  One copy of the book = $112AUD. Meanwhile, DTRPG are no longer offering POD copies.

Any ideas as to how I could get a physical copy for a somewhat more reasonable rate?

The shipping is ridiculous.  How do you get books from the US normally?  If I pack the book myself and send it the cheapest postal method it's $27USD, and that doesn't include me shipping the book to myself to reship it.

Is there some secret method that I don't know about?

The DTRPG thing is getting fixed.  If they make me order an approval copy then it'll be a few of weeks, if they skip the approval process then it might be Friday.

Perhaps the solution is to pop the book in a _relatively_ fitted postpak? (That's what we call the envelopes with bubble wrap inside down here in Australia). That's how most of the Australian booksellers ship single-title orders, it means you're paying for the weight of the book and nothing else. How much does each 'fancy' book weigh?

I'm shipping them in a tight cardboard sleeve.  I think the shipping weight is 1lb9oz.

What I need is an EU or even UK warehouse so I can take advantage of the sweet, sweet cheap subsidized  shipping.  I bet it'd be 10USD to ship from the UK to AU.  The most cost effective way to do THAt is to actually print a round of books in the EU but that's a stretch right now.

Part of the catch to all of this is that the warehouse I work doesn't do postal service at all, just Fedex and UPS.  I balanced the pros and cons and let them handle the international shipping--it's pricier but it gets there in a week instead of a month.  It's also unrealistic for me to keep up with shipping on my own.

I just picked up a PDF version, will sit down with a friend of mine who has a background in commercial printing and see if we can come up with some kind of paper stock and binding 'recipe' for an OK physical copy via OfficeWorks (our version of Staples).

However, I really hope someone offers you a commercial print run. This thing deserves a place on the shelf in FLGS :)

DTRPG is doing physical copies again, picked up two for $110AUD delivered, _heaps_ better price :)

Oh, I didn't even know!  I appreciate their get-it-donedness!

I wish shipping cost to europe were not so expesive (it's from half of the book price to like twice the price 😲)

is tehre any hope this could change ? 🥺

Shipping from the US is stupidly expensive.  Some EU/UK shops have the book, so shop around I guess?

(1 edit)

Has anyone else had a problem with the Ver1_05 not appearing correctly using Adobe Acrobat (Pro DC)? I also tried using iOS Acrobat and had the same issue. The first 2 pages appear fine, but then everything after that is a blank white page. I'm able to open it fine using Apple's Preview, and Apple's Books app. I'm not sure if I need to re-download or change a setting in Acrobat? Thanks.
edit: the error I get is a very unhelpful, "There was a problem reading this document (14)." A google search tells me it means the file is corrupt?

That latest PDF is a sort of preview version.  I'll fix that error when I put the official second printing out.

(+3)

Hello! Like others, just wondering when print copies will start shipping. I put the address in both here on itch.io and also via email but have received no notifications. It's a gift for a friend and I can't wait for them to get it.

Thanks!

I just sent out an email on this.  Spoiler:  Blackbox just made vague noises and said things are taking longer than they expected.  They didn't hazard a guess.  I doubt that it'll ship this week or next.

(+1)

Hello,

I apologize in advance, you're probably pretty busy, but if you've got a moment I was wondering if I could get some clarification?

I ordered a physical copy on July 03 (while they were still available), and waited until after the 13th to check if it was arriving. I saw you had mentioned something about warehouse delays, but when I checked my purchase page on the 15th or 16th it said my delivery has been fulfilled. I have not received a copy yet, however. Is the purchase being marked as fulfilled just acknowledgement that my delivery will be forthcoming when available, or was it actually shipped out and I just never received the copy?

Thank you.

Mine order is also marked as fulfilled. I got an email from Tim on the 25th though, letting me know that the warehouse was still in the middle of switching locations. The warehouse/shipping company is called 'Blackbox', so you could try search your spam folder for an email from them. I haven't gotten one yet though, so I assume they are still in the process of moving house.

I can't say for certain but I have a feeling that our orders being marked as 'Fulfilled' is an acknowledgement that the delivery will occur as soon as the warehouse people get their stuff figured out. Like everyone else though, I can't even begin to guess when that will be.

Hope this helps.

So:  The only way I can interact with an itch customer file is to mark it fulfilled.  The only intelligible way to work with their system (for me) was to mark customers fulfilled when I sent their addresses to the shipper.   It's not exactly they way that 'fulfilled' is supposed to be used but it works fine up to the point that the shipper delays shipments for 1+ months.  Then things are unclear.

If you ordered after June 26 or so, then you are in the 'waiting for the warehouse to ship' group.  And that sucks and I'm sorry.

Are you getting mailchimp emails from me?

(+1)

I'm not, but I did order on July 3rd, so I'm certain it's the warehouse thing you've stated. I was mostly just curious if Fulfilled meant sent out or not, and you've clarified for me! Thank you. Waiting a little longer won't kill me for a great game.

(+3)

So, any news when the shipping will start and how long it'll take?

(+1)

I just sent out an email.  Summary:  Warehouse doesn't know.  I bet things won't ship this week or next.

(+5)

Hi folks!  I'm feeling unwell and can't do this justice but:  TYOV just won three ENnie awards!  And it's thanks to all of you.

Thank you.

I am now going to bed.

(+2)

Just saw your wins on the Ennies and thanks for thanking archivists! We appreciate it. Can't wait to get my hands on the second printing.

I can't either!

Deleted 3 years ago

I don't think that'll help, honestly.

(1 edit)

I see that the PDF is double-page spreads. Would it be possible to please get a single-page version? Many thanks.

Yes, that should be out in a couple of weeks.  Please nudge me if it isn't.

Fantastic. Thanks.

Hi Tim, Is there a way to reach you about using some of this text for a creative writing class I teach? I recently purchased the hardback/pdf and am interested in having high school students work through some of these in a writing journal throughout the semester, but I don’t want to violate your preferences.  Thanks! Happy to email if you want to talk a bit, and if it’s just a no go you can let me know that too.

dearleadergame@gmail.com

I might have neat news for you!

is there a way to tell If my order is for the 2nd printing or was from the stock you already had...? Not a big deal if I have to wait.

If you ordered through itch then it's first printing, if you pre-ordered through backerkit then it'll be second printing in October.  Pre-orderererers will have the chance to switch to first printing orders after blackbox fulfills the backed up orders and I'm sure how much stock I have left.

Also, aww, I saw the second printing "may have one less ribbon"? I hope it turns out to still have both. I personally use both ribbons in every session - one for my prompt page, and one for the number tables in the back, because I absolutely adore the number tables and use them for every roll.

Second printings has all the ribbons!  It is decided!

I updated the pre-order item on backerkit, thank you!

Thank you! :)

Shipping update:  The warehouse told me things were going to ship this week.  It's Thursday and they haven't shipped yet so I'm crossing my fingers that they don't mess this up.

I'll send out an 'email blast' through MailChimp if there is a further delay.

It's almost noon on Friday and they haven't shipped.  Holy shit.

The fulfillment/warehouse folks responded to my email today saying that the warehouse transfer has taken longer than they thought and that they can't tell me when things will ship.  They can't provide a specific date but said they'll try to move things along quickly.

I'm super bummed about this and will send out an 'email blast' through MailChimp about it.

(+3)

Ridiculous customer service on their part. I hope they are able to make it right with you somehow. Expedited shipping at their cost to everyone that's been waiting for nearly a month would be a nice demand. ;)

Damn, sorry to hear about this Tim. I'm sure it is just as frustrating for you as it is for folks waiting. Fortunately I'm patient and not in too big of a hurry to get my copy. Enjoying the PDF version in the meantime. Just as long as it shows up in the next month before I change addresses ;)

This shipping company/warehouse is pretty inept.

(+1)

Agreed. It is rational to claim "COVID" for one or two weeks delay. But this amount of delay is pretty much unacceptable. At this point it sounds like they may just be making excuses to buy more time.

Hi Tim, the POD version is no longer available, have you disabled it or is it a problem of DriveThru?

Thanks

What!  Hang on.

Holy shit, that's the second time this has happened.  Thank you for the heads up, it is fixed.  I am going to write an email to see if I can get it fixed properly, though.

The POD version is now officially offline while a printing thing gets resolved.

No worries! Hope that they fix the issue soon

Hey Tim,

I'm sorry to bother, but I ordered the first edition a while ago, a bit before the announcement that there were warehouse issues, and I still haven't received a confirmation e-mail from them even though we're well into the week of the 13th.

What I'm trying to say is that I'm pretty anxious as to the state of my order, do you have any details? Should I just wait more?

Things are shipping this coming week, according to the warehouse.  Yours is in the outgoing list.  Check your junk email for anything from dearleadergame@gmail.com

Hi Tim,

I'm looking to get the physical copy, but they're all sold out. Just curious when there may be more, if there will be?

Thanks so much, excited to play!

I am going to put more up for sale at the end of next week.  Check back on Friday.

Or, heck, email me at dearleadergame@gmail.com and we'll make sure you get one a little sooner.

(+5)

Hi folks!  The warehouse folks told me the earliest they'd be shipping would be July 13th and (as of last week) things should be shipped by the 21st at latest.  I gave them a nudge today about when it'd go out but didn't hear back yet.  I'll send out a group email when I know more.

Have you heard anything more from the warehouse please? One of the copies i ordered is meant to be a birthday gift and i'm worried it won't arrive on time.

Things are shipping this coming week.  I apologize for missing that birthday.  Yesterday I called a local store to see if I could buy one to rush to you but they were sold out.

That's alright, the birthday is on the 31st. As long as it arrives by then it'll be all good. Do you happen to have any idea how soon it might reach Romania once it's shipped please?

The two recent orders I had for Poland were delivered in seven and eight days.  That's the best estimate I have.

Hey! I’m not sure how to go about getting a tracking number for my physical copy.  Do we contact you directly or is there a contact email for black box to follow up?

Blackbox hasn't shipped yet, though they will any day.  When they do you'll get a note from them.

Loving playing this - really fun!

Question:  as you receive prompts, should the experiences be RP'ed as if they happened in chronological order - a) within each memory and b) regardless of memory?

i've played it once where I added experiences to each separate memory in a chronological order within those individual memories.  However, as a whole, each prompt did not result in an experience that was chronologically following the prompt that preceded it.   This worked out ok, but I found it hard to tell the actual story flow.

The second time, I forced myself to create the experiences in chronological order, regardless whether I added them to the same memory i'd used for the previous experience, creating an absolute chronology that was created exactly how I received each prompt.  It makes "forgetting" more of a patchwork of things - there were gaps in my vampires memory that came in between other experiences.

I know the answer is that probably both are OK and that its just preference.  I'm still curious what the original intent was and how others have been playing.

I never even thought of that 1st option, and I'm not sure I understand how that would work! So you get a prompt, decide which memory to add it to, and that decides roughly the time period it occurred in? Sounds interesting.

ya - that’s kinda how i was doing it...

But even when i did play it the second way, i’m still unsure...

(+2)

When I play it I'll add something to Memory A, then something to B, then something to A again.  The Memories will have a consistent thread but there will be big jumps.  If the Stork Lord was dead but I'm wanting to put something else in that Memory that's all about him,  I need to somehow relate it back in some sense.  It becomes a challenging stricture to the writing.

Also it doesn't break if you don't do it.

Hmmm...  OK.  Interesting...

So the prompts do happen chronologically, and i guess that, with in each memory, they are as well.  But the result is memories that overlap with each other and can cause gaps when forgotten.

so, it might look something like this:

M1 gets Experience 1 from Prompt 4
M1 gets Experience 2 from Prompt 7
M2 gets Experience 3 from Prompt 6
M1 gets Experience 4 from Prompt 10
M2 gets Experience 5 from Prompt 9
etc...

So everything happens chronologically based on the Experiences, but if my vampire forgets all of their 1st memory (M1, in the above), it will mean they loose some information that happened between Exp 3 and 5 in the timeline... Love it love it love it!

I know i'm probably being WAY too analytical in how the game is intended to be played.  But I love knowing the original intent, cause it helps me think around how things unfold narratively.

Thanks again for such a great game!  I'm REALLY enjoying!

(+2)

You are 100% correct!  Things get -muddled- and it's delightful.

I appreciate your checking in with me about my intent as a maker.  Not enough people do that in games.  I don't do it often enough!  It's easy to read a thing and write our own understanding on it and not even realize it is happening and it can poison a game experience if we aren't careful.

When do you know if the 2nd printing will have EU warehousing? Wondering which version I should get.

I'm almost positive that the pre-order shipment of the 2nd printing will not benefit from EU warehousing.  It'll all rush out Fedex.

I do hope to figure out how to put stuff on a boat for the EU but, holy shit, that stuff is hard to figure out.

Thanks for replying. Might get the drivethru version, even though it is not so fancy.

I can only imagine how hard it must be to figure out.

Looking forward to playing it.

(1 edit) (+1)

Hi Tim! Your game is literally the best RPG out there imo, and I've played a lot of them. I recommend it whenever possible.

One thing - my copy has the gold leaf printed significantly off, clipping over the faux-labels on their tops and not starting for a while after their bottoms. Is there something I can do to rectify this at all? It's fine if it's not within your power, since there's a print company between you and all that. I'm happy to have the book at all, but I figured I'd ask.

Edit: to add pic.

Oh fuck, that one is WAY off.  Congratulations on the mis-printiest one of the bunch.  Many of the books have an amount of variance with the gold treatment but you won the prize.

I'm going to ask you to email me about this in October after the second printing is out.  Is that cool?

Yeah, that'll work! Thanks!

It's great to see the kindness and generosity to offer community copies to people on the honour system. Makes me even happier to support this body of work and the BG community. #muchlove

(+1)

The community copies system is awesome!  And it works because other folks buy 'em!

(+2)

What sort of errata was I the first edition? IF I consider getting the first Ed from elsewhere, will I be getting a less good version than backing the second ed? Thanks!

(+3)

I asked via Twitter https://twitter.com/TimHutchingsFTW/status/1281411233137061888?s=19

(-1)

Hi, will the second printing of the book be shipped from the US? Also, is the EU pod version on DriveThru already sold out...? Sorry if you already answered these questions, I read the whole page + comments but I couldn't find any info

The DTRPG thing is fixed.  Somehow the POD option was turned off.

The 2nd printing ships from the USA.  My fulfillment warehouse is shifting ownership and I'm hoping that they'll be able to offer overseas warehousing.

Is there a different way to  get a physical copy?

For Germany the shipping cost is 37€. That almost doubles the price of the book.

(+1)

https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/306279/Thousand-Year-Old-Vampire has POD versions that are much cheaper.  Shipping to Germany is $5USD I think.

The shipping to the EU for the offset fancy book is outrageous and I'm sorry.  If you can catch me when things are slower I can send a book via the regular post and it's about $10usd cheaper.

I hope that the second edition gets an EU warehouse to ship from, which would cut down cost.
